I received the photo below from a site visitor asking if I knew the source.  I’ve seen it before as well but also can not place it.

Anyone?  Leave a comment if you know the original artist or can provide a lead that I or others can follow-up on.  (I apologize for the graphic quality.  Once we find the original artist I’ll get a better version and post it along with a reference link.)

First, we see the original women in fantasy art sketches and some back story…

We did this drawing as a private commission. One of the most fun and exciting things about working on fantasy art is the FANTASY part! The story of John Carter of Mars is such a blast. To do our research for this piece, we borrowed a copy of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ “The Gods of Mars & The Warlord of Mars” from our own Dave Palumbo who has an especially beautiful edition that has the cover art as well as interior illustrations by Frank Frazetta. What a story! If you haven’t read these stories yet, better get to it!

Next Boris and Julie talk a little about how they complete a painting.  I was aware that they collaborated before but never at such a level.  I can’t imagine what it would be like to share a painting like that.  For me, I have so many ideas of where I’m going with something that I would have a hard time just picking up where someone else left off (and worrying that they took my idea in a different direction).

Here is Julie working on the last stages of a painting based on ERB’s John Carter, a private commission from a friend of ours. We are taking turns in our usual unplanned way, There is no “you do this and I do that”. One of us just takes over when the other is ready to stop. At the end of the day the only important thing is to divide the working time as evenly as we can and to have lots of fun!
The drawing below is the preliminary sketch for two of the white apes in the right half of the painting.

Finally the finished work …

At long last, here is the finished painting of John Carter of Mars. During the holidays, due to various ice storms and cold viruses, we were able to get plenty of work done. Not a whole lot of partying, but lots of painting. Well, you know, the farmers say to make hay while the sun shines…artists say to make paintings while you’re housebound!

I figured I was overdue for a post and have been hunting around the past 45 minutes looking for some new fantasy art of women that I hadn’t seen before when I came across www.colero.ca.

Colero is a contemporary artist born in Toronto, Canada. Formally trained, he spent some time in illustration and while he landed some gigs with magazines his passion has always been pinup and the fantasy art of women.

The guy is a true modern day Renaissance man with a network of companies from construction to retail in the fitness, health, and beauty industries. And, he is an amazing artists with an incredible eye for form.

His site focuses on the fantasy art of women in classical fantasy art women, comic, and pinup motif.

I’m a fan of most of his work but the posting here is a favorite. What do you think? Is this someone you were familiar with or is this a new artist for you as well?

Fantasy Art Women - Who Come Out After Dark Creating Goddess Art

This poem is about seeking out the magic that is mine and yours,fantasy art women., fairies in art, mermaids that sing deep in the ocean to sailors they have captured for true loves sake.  All we need do is decide that it is real to us and embrace its music.

Fantasy art women
in your backyard
right where I left them.
Surprised?
Not to worry
I am sure they are still breathing
resting under covers of flower petals.

Fantasy women
who come out after dark
wanting to see if the tide has come in
if the ocean still roars.
They run to meet the foam
laughing through tears
hoping for magic
knowing it can be found
somewhere.

Fantasy art
I keep my canvas primed
ready for inspiration.
Last time I looked
my goddess’ were singing
so I began to dance.

This fantasy art woman
me
fantasy woman
art on every wall
has learned to dance and sing
from stories told on canvas.
Neglected at times
only a goddess might think so
jealous soul.
I will hear my goddess say,
“Did you forget my voice?
My paintings are my heart.”
The only answer possible
“No, not ever.”

Innocent angels still wait
I draw them
keep them in my pocket
lest I forget their wings are fragile.
Lest i forget wing of my own.
I will forever hear their whispers
after every sunset
and before each sunrise
what else it there to do?

yes
I hold out for that magic
I paint and sculpt on rainy days
days that seem closed
yet days that mention flight
despite the weather.

special efforts at times

mine for the giving
giving blessings.

Goddess art
I tried to call
left messages about my plans
watercolors meeting paper
oils meeting cotton
clay meeting my fingers.

There were whimsical angels
inside every poem you wrote to me
I put them in a jar
and hid them till I felt ready
to hear their singing.

Every since I turned professional I have been talking about doing paintings now and then just for myself. The idea of painting something just for fun is both amazingly appealing and incredibly terrifying, so I mostly talk about it. However, several years ago, when I first met my

Julie, she showed me a drawing that she had done long before she became a pro herself. I was so impressed with the strength of her drawing that I decided to do a painting based on her sketch (with her permission, of course) The result fell way short of the power of the original drawing. Here are both versions, hers, bold and powerful, mine, professional but lacking in drama.

Since then, almost twenty years later, I have done a couple of other pieces “just for fun”. Here are two more of those. Some day I will do more, I am sure.

Does anyone know the source of this one? I’d like to cite it but can’t find the original artist. The use of tattoos in fantasy art is interesting and I’d like to learn if this artist has more work in this area.
